In the 24 hours we get each day, we have many tasks and things to do and achieve than those hours could accommodate. It is, therefore, imperative that you are deliberate about how you manage your time. Organising your time in ways that are conducive to your productivity is crucial, but it can sometimes be hard to know where to start. Here are 6 simple but practical strategies for increasing your productivity at work.

Create a To-Do List
To-do lists are valuable work aids. Try to see your schedule and to-do lists as maps that can lead you to success in your work when you follow and adhere to them strictly. They help regulate your tasks, provide you with focus and reward you with feelings of satisfaction when you check off all you have accomplished. 

While creating a to-do list, be careful not to stuff your list with irrelevant or unimportant tasks. You need your list to be as concise as possible to get desired results. 

Work on the Big Tasks When You are Most Alert
We have had those big tasks or goals that we pushed aside and procrastinated on because we did not feel confident that we will achieve them. We prioritize small duties and leave the big ones and by the time we get to them, we are burned out from our day to give it the attention it requires. This leads to poor results and makes it feel like productivity is absent. Knowing when and how you work best is important to get big projects done on time.


Avoid Multi-Tasking 
Multi-tasking is an enemy of productivity. We tend to think of the ability to multitask as an important skill for increasing efficiency, but the opposite is the case. Research has discovered that attempting to do several tasks at once can result in lost time and productivity. Instead, focus on committing to a single task before moving on to your next project. That way, you complete your work faster. 

Take Breaks at Intervals During Work
Do not think working longer hours means you are getting more work done. Good work is not done when you are tired and burned out. Studies show that taking regular breaks helps boost your concentration and mood. Take a walk around the office, talk to a few colleagues or spend a few minutes having a snack. Taking your eyes and mind off work for a few minutes will help you return to your task with a refreshed mind and mood.

We already know the importance of focus and its benefits to our work. But another thing you need to consider is the need to identify and ignore those distractions too. For many of us, those distractions demanding attention are social media and phone calls.

To be productive, you need to shut down their disturbance. Turn off your email and phone notifications when you need full concentration. Are you a social media addict? Use social media as a treat. Allow yourself a precise time of browsing after you have accomplished a major task and turn it off when you are done and get back to work. 


Take Care of Your Health and Body. 
We often get carried away with work that we forget about our health. Some people skip breakfast or other meals because they are trying to meet up deadlines. Working late into the night and getting inadequate rest and sleep affects productivity at the workplace. Getting adequate sleep, eating healthy and making exercise part of your routine are some of the things you need to do every day to be at your best and be more productive.
